Hurricane Melissa Tourism Resileince and Recovery Initiative

GTRCMC Destination Jamaica Post-Melissa Recovery Project

GTRCMC Destination Jamaica Post-Melissa Recovery Project  delivers emergency care packages to support tourism workers and their families—reaching up to 5,000 individuals across affected parishes – while training 1,000 workers, equipping 500 businesses with role‑based BCPs, and launching an offline resilience app so the sector can prepare for, manage, and rapidly recover from hurricanes.

GTRCMC Destination Jamaica Post-Melissa Recovery Project is a joint initiative of the Global Tourism Resilience & Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC) and The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), designed to help Jamaica’s tourism workforce and communities bounce back stronger after Hurricane Melissa. The project will deliver 5,000 emergency care packages to affected tourism workers and families, conduct a Tourist Recovery Needs Assessment to accelerate visitor recovery, and train 1,000 workers across eight parishes with practical tools, one-page Business Continuity Plans, and a new offline Tourism Resilience App featuring interactive lessons and checklists. By coupling humanitarian relief with data-driven training and digital innovation, this national programme aims to reduce downtime, safeguard livelihoods, and build a culture of preparedness and rapid recovery across Jamaica’s tourism value chain.
